Diamond certificates

Your diamond certificate is an independent laboratory report. Start with the issuing laboratory, the report number and the stones it covers. Then read the assessments recorded for those stones.

What comes with a Lamora piece

Every piece includes an independent laboratory diamond certificate identifying the issuing laboratory and the stones covered by the report. It is not an authenticity certificate issued by Lamora.

Our stone selection standard

We select E color and VS2 clarity or better lab-grown diamonds, then assess their proportions, polish, symmetry and appearance in the finished setting. Where a formal cut grade applies, our selection standard is Excellent or Very Good.

Read the report’s own terminology

Laboratories offer different services and use different reporting systems. For example, GIA’s quality assessment for loose, colorless to near-colorless lab-grown diamonds of 0.15 carats or more uses Premium or Standard. See GIA’s laboratory-grown diamond services. A seller’s stated grades and a laboratory’s assessment should be read in their own context.

The four Cs

Cut describes how a stone’s proportions and faceting affect light. Formal cut grading depends on the shape and report service. For fancy shapes, look at proportions, polish, symmetry and the stone itself.

Color describes body color. Clarity describes internal and surface characteristics assessed under magnification. The report records the laboratory’s findings.

Carat is weight, not visible size. Shape and proportions affect how large a stone looks. Total carat weight, or TCW, combines the diamonds in a piece. Our product pages state a minimum total diamond weight.

Other terms you may see

  • Polish: the finish of the facet surfaces.
  • Symmetry: the alignment of facets and features.
  • Table: the large top facet.
  • Depth: the stone’s height relative to its width.
  • Girdle: the outer edge between the crown and pavilion.
  • Fluorescence: a response to ultraviolet light, rather than a measure of sparkle.
  • Eye-clean: a description of how inclusions appear to the unaided eye in normal viewing.
